The Ocean State Outlaws softball program is proud to have a coaching staff comprised of women who have played or are currently playing college softball. A few of our coaches are also former Outlaws players, which brings a unique and personal connection to our team. We believe it’s crucial for young athletes to be guided by those who have firsthand experience and a deep passion for the sport. Softball has given our coaches so much, and through coaching, they are excited to give back and help shape the future of this beloved game. Our commitment to fostering talent, developing skills and nurturing the next generation of softball players is at the heart of everything we do.
Katie C.
Katie Costa became a softball coach in 2015, joining the CLCF Bombers program. She spent four years as an assistant coach, starting at the 14u level and advancing with the team to the 18u showcase level. In 2019, she took over as head coach, helping two of her student-athletes commit to college softball programs. In the fall of 2020, she became the head coach of the New England Phoenix Elite showcase team, where six of her student-athletes committed to college softball programs. In 2022, she helped establish the Ocean State Outlaws softball program, derived from the well-known Ocean State Outlaws baseball program. She has three student-athletes committed to college softball programs.
In 2017, Coach Katie became the assistant varsity coach and head JV coach at her high school alma mater, Cranston West. Under her guidance, the JV team won the state championship in 2018.
In the summer of 2018, Coach Katie became an assistant coach at Rhode Island College. During her tenure, the Anchorwomen ranked among the top 25 in the nation for batting average and on-base percentage in 2019 and 2020, and among the top 30 in runs scored both years. She spent the 2022 season as an assistant coach at Wheaton College, helping the team return to the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade, finishing fourth in the NEWMAC conference. Coach Katie joined the Bridgewater State softball coaching staff in the summer of 2022, where the Bears finished their season in second place.
Coach Katie graduated from Roger Williams University with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and minors in networking & security and graphic design. While at Roger Williams, Coach Katie was a two-year starter for the RWU softball team, leading the Hawks in hits as a sophomore and earning Commonwealth Coast Conference Honorable Mention honors before a career-ending injury. As a starting four-year varsity player at Cranston West, Coach Katie received numerous accolades, including 2009 Rhode Island Interscholastic League 3rd Team Division 1, 2010 Rhode Island Interscholastic League 2nd Team Division 1, Rhode Island Interscholastic League All-State Team 2, and Providence Journal All-State Team 3.
Coach Katie has been playing softball since she was five years old. Her love for the game and dedication to her student-athletes at both the high school and college levels drive her commitment to giving back to the sport that has given her so much.
Hailey M.
Johnson & Wales University Class of '25
Coach Hailey, affectionately known as “Coach Marty” from her travel softball days, has been playing softball for the past 18 years. She graduated from East Providence High School in 2021. During her time in high school, she played varsity softball and volleyball. She finished her travel softball career with the New England Phoenix Elite team in 2021. She then committed to playing Division III college softball at Johnson & Wales University, where she plays C/2B/3B. During the 2021-2022 season, she and her team became GNAC Champions. Currently, Coach Hailey is an undergraduate senior, set to graduate in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science degree while majoring in Health Sciences. She maintains an impressive 3.60 GPA. With three years of coaching experience under her belt, Coach Hailey works primarily with catchers and middle infielders, but her extensive playing background allows her to coach all positions on the field, including P/C/INF/OF. Hailey is passionate about coaching because she wants to give back to the sport and help players achieve their goals on the field.

Coach Emily graduated from Grafton High school, played on Varsity all four years and was Caption her Senior year. She continued her softball career at Salem State University. In her junior year, she was honored by being named a captain and is hoping to have the same honor this year as she enters her senior year. Coach Emily will be Graduating with a Bachelors in Sports and Movement Science with a Concentration of Rehabilitation. She is also studying for her SCSC ( Strength and conditioning) Certification. After School, she plan on getting my Physical Therapy Assistant degree and sitting for my License so she can practice physical therapy. When Coach Emily is not playing softball or working, she love everything outdoors related from winter sports like snowboarding to all the summer joys of hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding and so much more.

Coach Kayleen has played softball for 5 years. She has spent 2 season with the Ocean State Outlaws 18u Showcase softball program. She is currently playing collegiate softball with Community College of Rhode Island as they were District Regional Champions and ranked #6 in the country from the World Series for her 24’ season. She looks forward to coaching the next generation of softball!!
